Caturra – Guatemala, Finca La Libertad
This Finca La Libertad coffee comes from a family farm in Huehuetenango, Guatemala. The farm sits at around 1,800 meters, in a semi-forested area of the Huehuetenango region. This lot is 100% Caturra, a classic and well-loved variety in Central America.
A Family Legacy
Juan José Ariano owns Finca La Libertad. He has exported coffee for more than 20 years. His family has grown coffee for generations, starting with his grandfather, Jorge Vides, who founded a farm in 1958. Today, his mother, Maria Elena Vides, runs the quality lab. She also supports women’s coffee projects in the region, including a micro-lot project called Hamacas.
A Careful Washed Process
First, workers pick the ripe cherries by hand. Then, the farm’s dry mill sorts and selects the best cherries. After that, the coffee goes through a full wash. Finally, it dries slowly on raised beds, in small batches called partidas. This careful process brings out a clean and bright cup. As a result, every batch of this Finca La Libertad coffee stays fully traceable, from the cherry to the cup.
Tasting Notes
This coffee has warm notes of milk chocolate and ripe pear. A light hibiscus note adds a floral finish. Together, these flavors make a smooth and balanced cup.
A Farm Focused on Quality
The Vides family constantly renews and improves their farms. Each farm focuses on a specific variety and process. In addition, samples are cupped and graded in Guatemala City, to keep quality consistent across every batch.
Finally, we roast this coffee by hand in Montpellier. It is available as whole beans or ground, based on your preferred brewing method.
