Pour Over Coffee Using Chemex
Pour-over coffee is one of the most favorite and versatile drinks for home brewing. Working with a Chemex for the pour-over requires a little practice, but once you get it there’s no looking back.
- Heat up the water first to 93-96 degrees Celsius (200 – 205 degrees Fahrenheit).
- Use light roasted or medium roasted and medium-coarse ground coffee for perfect pour-over. For 2 cups of coffee, we’ll need around 34 grams.
- Add the Chemex filter and coffee, and wait for it to bloom. Wet the coffee filter. Now add the coffee and let it bloom for a minute by letting it sit. This process releases the CO2 from the coffee.
- Now, add the rest of the water to make your pour-over coffee! For every 1 gram of coffee, use 15 – 16 grams of water. In total, for 34 grams of coffee, you’ll need 520 grams of water.
It is 100% worthy of your few extra minutes when it comes to using a Chemex coffee maker. Because it’s a simple mechanism that can deliver perfect pour-over coffee for you every time.
French Press
The French press is one of the effortless and most inexpensive ways to brew a great cup of specialty coffee. It’s a forgiving method as it works for all sorts of beans and roasts. An ideal tool for a perfect morning coffee ritual!
For your French press coffee, use any of the light, medium, or dark roast beans. Make sure the ground level of the beans should be a medium grind here.
- First, grind 70 grams (for 1 cup) of coffee beans to a medium grind. Avoid using fine grind as it can create sediment. Also, avoid using too coarse grind as it won’t make the coffee flavorful enough.
- Heat up 4 cups of water but not at the boiling point (93-96 degrees Celsius). Then let it sit for a minute to tone down the temperature a bit.
- Add the coffee grounds now to the bottom of the pot and let it bloom for a minute. Add hot water up to the surface of the coffee. Stir it with a spoon.
- After a minute, fill up the French press to the top and stir again. This time wait for 4 minutes.
- Place the lid on the French press. Slowly press the plunger down (to the very bottom). Pour and serve the coffee immediately
